The over all objective of the program is to support income generation for the rural population in developing countries by enabling sustainable production and use of biomass for energy purposes, with a focus on biofuels. This is realized with the following objectives:

1. Demonstrating sustainable projects providing energy to a substantial number of  beneficiaries, with high replication potential;
2. Developing models of best practice for technology and social implementation;
3. Accelerating innovation in the development of biofuels for local development;
4. Supporting local organizations in large scale dissemination, using knowledge and expertise derived from the projects.
