Expected outputs

• Installation of a biogas system of 200m3; providing biogas to a biogas generator. The biogas digester will be fed with 60 tons of water hyacinth, 6 tons of cow dung, and 9 tons of pig manure per month

• Setting up a battery charge business: approximately 100 batteries per day can be charges at this station. If there is increasing demand, the system can be expanded.

• Development of a business model for the battery charge station. This concept can be used for dissemination to other location.

Beneficiaries

The direct beneficiaries of the pilot project are the inhabitants of the villages of the district of Kalangala. The battery charge station will provide a reliable service and will reduce battery charging costs.  .

As preparation for initiating this project, a study was done in the FACT knowledge center, about the opportunities and feasibility of aquatic biofuels, their limitations and associated problems and threats.
