Seminar on "Jatropha oil for local development in Mozambique (Cabo Delgado) Project"

December 6th, 2010

The 5th and final Seminar of this 4 year project was held in Maputo on the 26th of November. There were representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry, WWF, one Italian ONG, students and teachers from OWU and ADPP Colegio. The questions and comments were very lively and central. All presentations focused on lessons learned from the project and how they can be used to make the Jatropha production more profitable to the farmers; make the oil processing more profitable and the whole system resilient. The external consultant Annie Sugrue, who had just visited the farmers who are growing the jatropha plants in hedges, began and she found the whole program very good. The national television channel, TVM came and filmed the car (Nissan) modified by the project to run on jatropaha PPO and Bachir explained about the modification. The program was broadcasted twice; yesterday evening and this morning.

Presentations were given by Annie Sugrue, Henderson Maposa, Bachir Afonso, Flemming Nielsen and Erik Schurmann (Download presentations).
