New technology for enhanced biogas
April 19th, 2010
Recently, FACT Foundation staff visited Lehmann Maschinenbau, a German company producing bio-extruders and other equipment for biogas systems. Bio-extruders are used for the pre-processing of biogas feedstock. A Bio-extruder crushes the feed stock by using mechanical energy and the alternation of pressure load and relief. The cell structure of the material is disrupted, its bioavailability increases and biogas production increases by about 20%. Furthermore, the retention time of digesters can be decreased and grass and straw become new options as feed stock. This technology is highly interesting for FACT as its design is also promising for our small scale local purposes.
